How to Navigate through Negative Energy

In Am I an Empath?, we established that we are all empaths to some degree or another, and that being an empath is actually a good thing. Noticing and feeling energy provides helpful information so that we are aware of the conditions around us. Now, we can learn how to avoid absorbing negative energy so we can instead use the information we're receiving to help us. Here are a few ways:


1) Avoid People and Situations We Know Will Negatively Impact Us

This may seem obvious, but often we expose ourselves to harsh environments without even realizing we're doing it. In our connected world, we are bombarded with information and energy all day long. While many are already avoiding crowded places at this point in time, it's important to also limit or distance ourselves from certain people or situations that drain or negatively impact our energy. Limiting social media and news consumption will certainly help with this. Instead, we can choose to direct our time and energy towards people and experiences that bring us joy.


2) Breath Work and Visualization

Sometimes harsh environments just can't be avoided, such as a conference call with the negative coworker or dinner with the in-laws. In these cases, one method we can use is to picture a glowing light surrounding us, protecting from the energy all around. Notice our breathing and ensure we're taking deep, slow breaths. On the exhale, see all the negative energy cast out of the beautiful, glowing light. Inhale peace and tranquility, and exhale all that does not serve us.


3) Say "Thank You"

By simply acknowledging the information that is being sent energetically to us in a positive way, we can limit its impact on us. One way to do this is by thanking the universe through thought for the information that is being sent to us. This acknowledgment through gratitude shifts our perception to avoid absorbing it. Then, we can instead use the information in a more useful way, such as steering clear of the source of the negative energy.


4) Understand the Mirroring Aspect of Empathy

Energy gives us information. Sometimes it's warning us of danger. But often it's reminding us what's within ourselves. Our outer world is a reflection of our inner world. When we feel a pang of discomfort in our bellies, this is a sign the universe is actually mirroring what's inside of us through situations in our lives. This is directing us to what is ready to be healed. If we feel anxiety, fear of failure, or depression from a person or situation, we can ask ourselves if this is ours. Let this be an opportunity to start healing.


5) Heal the Source of the Negative Energy Within Us

When we find the source of our negative feelings and energies, we can heal them. This takes time and deliberate effort. But the more we face our fears and work through the traumas of our pasts, we raise our energy levels and no longer absorb lower vibration energy to the same degree. Unfortunately, there's no silver bullet or magic pill that will erase our traumas. We have to make up our minds that we are ready to do the work and help ourselves feel better, and through addressing and releasing the things we hide and push down we can raise our vibrational energy. This is called shadow work. Some ways we can start this journey are through journaling, talking with a therapist, or through the tools offered here such as reiki energy healing, past life regression therapy, and transformation classes.
